With Jean hanging on Duncan's arm like a trophy, Scott was apparently in the market for a "normal" girlfriend of his own. Taryn capitalized on this, practically clinging to Scott's arm at any and every chance she got, including having him take her to the Sadie Hawkin's Dance, beating Jean to the punch. As such, she and Jean were at odds long before they were all exposed as mutants. Since learning Scott's true eye color, Taryn has given him the cold shoulder.
